چکیده

Botulinum toxin is significantly associated with decreased spasticity, increased range of motion and improved upper extremity function. Botulinum toxin in combination with electrical stimulation improves upper extremity function. Deinnervation of the subscapularis muscle using botulinum toxin may reduce shoulder pain and improve passive range of motion, more so than deinervation of the pectoralis major muscle. Deinnervating lower extremity muscles with botulinum toxin reduces spasticity, but has not been shown to improve function. Botulinum toxin in combination with electrical stimulation may improve spasticity and function. The Evidence-Based Review of Stroke Rehabilitation (EBRSR) reviews current practices in stroke rehabilitation.

Botulinum Toxin Injections or Application of Splints: Impact on Spasticity, Range of Motion and Function of Upper Extremity in Chronic Stroke Patients

Spasticity or increase in muscle tone is one of the problems following stroke. Due to this increase in muscle tone, patients are confronted to problems in motor control and difficulties in activities of daily living and complications such as shortness and contracture. The aim of this study is to compare the effects of using splint or botulinum toxin injection on spasticity, range of motion and ...

Safety and efficacy of incobotulinumtoxinA as a potential treatment for poststroke spasticity.

Spasticity is a common disabling symptom for several neurological conditions. Botulinum toxin type A injection represents the gold standard treatment for focal spasticity after stroke showing efficacy, reversibility, and low prevalence of complications. In recent years, incobotulinumtoxinA, a new Botulinum toxin type A free of complexing proteins, has been used for treating several movement dis...

Can botulinum toxin type A injection technique influence the clinical outcome of patients with post-stroke upper limb spasticity? A randomized controlled trial comparing manual needle placement and ultrasound-guided injection techniques.

BACKGROUND Botulinum toxin type A is a first-line treatment for post-stroke focal spasticity, and the accuracy in delivering the toxin to the target muscles may influence the treatment outcome. Our aim was to compare the reduction of spasticity and the related finger position at rest improvement in post-stroke patients treated with botulinum toxin type A in upper limb muscles using ultrasound g...
